SPLITTING POSTS
Why you may see splits in your posts
Our timber posts are treated with a tanalising process, which provides excellent protection against rot, decay, and insect infestation. While tanalised timber is highly durable and resistant to weathering, it's essential to understand how external factors can still impact its appearance over time.
One important aspect to note is that timber, even when tanalised, is a natural material that can be influenced by changes in weather conditions. During the warmer months, the timber may experience slight expansion due to increased moisture content in the air. This expansion can occasionally lead to the appearance of surface splits or cracks, commonly known as "checking."
It's essential to understand that these surface splits are a natural occurrence and do not affect the structural integrity or performance of the timber posts. As the seasons change and moisture levels in the air normalise, the timber will naturally contract, and the surface splits will tighten back up, blending with the natural grain of the wood.
While these surface splits are purely cosmetic and do not compromise the functionality of the timber posts, we understand that you may have aesthetic concerns. A timber filler or glue can be used in the splits, but we advise against this and prefer to let the splits naturally close.
